It is the 3rd July and I am up early on the first day of my first women’s PGA event, not only am I trying to control my nerves but cannot believe the weather. It is wet, windy and cold...

On arriving at Kedleston Park Golf Club for the WPGA professional and assistant’s championship the course looked lovely and the staff were welcoming. A little practice and chat to others helped to calm the nerves a little and I felt more positive when approaching the first tee. The first few holes went well, but as the wind and rain increased and started to swirl it become a little more difficult and at times I struggled with my driving, finding a few trees along the way! Towards the end of the round, I felt that my play became more consistent and I ended the day middle of the field. I was helped by my encouraging playing partners who understood this was my first women’s professional event.

Another early start on day two, the wind was strong but at least the sun was out. Weirdly I felt more nervous on day 2 than day 1! I took to the driving range to try and correct my swing with the driver, although the first tee shot with my driver still didn’t go to plan! The nerves really did get to me on the start of the second round impacting on my play for the first few holes. Giving myself a ‘talking to’ seemed to settle me for the rest of the round. I felt my iron play was consistent and putting was steady on fast and undulating greens.

Overall, although I was very nervous, I had a great experience and met some lovely people. I am now looking forward to my next event. In the mean time I will be working on my game especially the driving!
